Tarot & Crystals

Beautiful, calming & healing.. as old as the earth & completely natural but how to they go hand in hand with Tarot?

How do Crystals work?

Everything around us, including our own bodies, are made up of energy. Some things vibrate at a lower energy frequency, some at a higher level. When the body’s energy is vibrating at a low frequency, it means we feel flat, down, unhappy etc. And when the body is vibrating at a higher frequency, this indicates we’re feeling joy, empowerment, excitement etc. The higher we feel the more we attract similar frequency like a magnet.

Crystals emit a certain energy, each having their own personalities & the more we come into contact with these, slowly over time our energy matches that of the crystals in subtle ways. Crystals emit positive, uplifting, energizing & calming vibrations that help you achieve a more peaceful mind & a revitalized physical state of being. The ancient Egyptians used crystals for both scrying and for medicine for thousands of years.

Although it is a lot less powerful than human energy and the power of the mind, crystal energy is a great way to start if you’re looking to increase your vibrations overall.

A little Egyptian History of Crystals

Carnelian was mined in Egypt itself, and was used to make amulets, beads and figurines. Thought to be highly protective, it was commonly paired with turquoise and lapis, because the three of them together were thought to enhance the properties of each stone. Carnelian carries the energy of fire.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis was highly prized in ancient Egypt & unlike Carnelian it was a precious stone that was reserved for royalty. Lapis was most often used as inlay for jewelry & amulets. The Egyptians associated it with the Divine realms. This crystal was often ground into pigment to be worn as eyeshadow by the upper classes. It’s no wonder that today we think of it as the quintessential third eye stone!

This bright green crystal goes all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, who associated it with their god Osiris. Osiris was the god of transformation, regeneration & the underworld, and was almost always depicted with a green face. Malachite had a close association with the Osiris story & was thought to assist in underworld journeys. Today we use malachite for much the same reason: to help us release old, stuck patterns & transform them through deep soul-journeys in our subconscious minds.

The Egyptians regarded turquoise as being a highly protective stone, like carnelian. It was associated with Hathor--who was the goddess of beauty, love & the arts & turquoise mines were dedicated to her. It was relatively rare even in ancient Egypt, so it was worn mainly by royalty & the upper classes. Today we associate turquoise with serenity & communication. Our modern turquoise comes primarily from Central Asia & has a slightly different look than the stones the Egyptians would have recognized.

There is a great little book called The Crystal Bible, it gives all the information you need to understand what each crystal is used for and how to use them in your daily practices. You can find this little book on Amazon, link below:
